You can be your own barista this summer! This post is somewhat self-indulgent because, like many of you coffee lovers out there, I love nothing more on a hot summer day than a cold coffee, but I don't want to leave my house to go get it. Iced coffee and the rising popularity of cold brew coffee has really blown up in the last few years. Luckily for us, this means a lot of new recipes are popping up all over the place that teaches us how to make the best coffee at home. For the most part, you don't even need to own an espresso machine to make some of your new favorite summer coffee drinks.

International Iced Coffee Drinks
There is so much inspiration for coffee enthusiasts to discover about cold coffee drinks from around the world! Take Affogato, for example, it is espresso (or a double shot of espresso if you really need it) poured over vanilla ice cream. Vietnamese Iced Coffee Recipe (C Ph Sa )

Three main factors affect the taste of the Vietnamese iced coffee. The quality and grind of the coffee and the quantity of the sweetened condensed milk. Find a good coffee and adjust the grind as needed for your filter. Adjust the sweetened condensed milk to your preferred sweetness. We will often mix the sweetened condensed milk with some half and half to reduce it's sweetness a bit. For a quick version, use a shot of espresso instead of the coffee brewed in the traditional filter (phin).

Difference Between Traditional Iced Coffee vs Cold Brew
This article from Torke breaks down the differences:
Traditional Iced Coffee
- Brewed with hot water and then chilled
- Brew time is much shorter (approximately 2 minutes)
- The coffee grounds-to-water ratio should be doubled; 1:2
Cold Brew
- Brewed with cold water
- Significantly longer brew time (12-24 hours)
- To steep cold brew, first, coarsely grind your coffee beans, thensteep the coffee grounds directly in cold water using a coffee filter, cheesecloth, or some other kind of filter
- The coffee grounds-to-water ratio should be 1:4
Which Country Invented Iced Coffee?
Algeria! According to thisarticle from American Dining Creations, historians have traced back the origins to the 1840s in Algeria when the French were fighting in the Battle of Mazagran. As the story goes, they supposedly ran out of milk so they used water instead and served it cold to combat the heat. Then the French soldiers brought it back to France where it was calledcafé mazagran.

What Kind of Coffee is Best for Cold Coffee Drinks?
Most articles I read said you should opt for a dark or medium roast coffee. This is because the stronger the brew the less likely the coffee flavor will be diluted when you add water or ice to it.
